The most impressive scoring streak in the Charlotte Hornets’ history ended Monday night. But it didn’t hurt the club in the least because the Golden State Warriors were in town.

Glen Rice’s club-record 135-game run of scoring in double figures ended when he went three for 11 and scored only nine points before he and the rest of Charlotte’s starters sat out the fourth quarter of a 112-83 victory.

The Hornets had at least eight points from six players, led by Matt Geiger’s 29, in sending the Warriors to their fourth road loss in five nights, all by at least 20 points.

Rice had averaged 27 points over his previous nine games, and teammate Anthony Mason, who was averaging 18 points over his past four games, was held to four points on two-for-eight shooting.

Detroit 100, Dallas 94--Before the game at Auburn Hills. Mich., Dallas Coach Don Nelson went over to tell Piston reserve Jerome Williams he liked the way he was playing.

Williams, possibly bolstered by Nelson’s praise, had 11 of his 14 rebounds in the fourth quarter, when the Pistons pulled away.

Williams, who has 26 rebounds in the past two home games, gave credit to Grant Hill, who scored 35 points, including 15 in the third quarter.

“He went out and controlled the game from start to finish,” Williams said.

San Antonio 116, Sacramento 95--Tim Duncan had 29 points and 17 rebounds and twin-tower teammate David Robinson had 22 points and seven blocks for the Spurs, who won at Sacramento.

Robinson played 28 minutes in his second game after missing six games because of a knee injury. San Antonio, the top-ranked defensive team in the league, limited the struggling Kings to 38% shooting.
