Leonardo Nole; Bodybuilder Posed for Prometheus Statue

Leonardo Nole, 91, a bodybuilder who posed for the statue at New York’s Rockefeller Center. The golden statue, which dominates the facility’s skating rink, is of Prometheus, the Greek titan who stole fire from the heavens to benefit humankind. Nole was a weightlifter, rower and hiker who modeled for college art classes when he was chosen in 1933 to pose for the statue by sculptor Paul Manship. Nole was paid $1 an hour for the three-month assignment. After he was drafted into the Army, he posed for a statue at the Pentagon, sculpted by Henry Krist, which depicts an infantryman. A native of New Rochelle, N.Y., Nole worked for the post office there and in Sacramento. On Feb. 22 in Sacramento.
