ORANGE COUNTY EARNINGS

American Vanguard Corp.: The Newport Beach diversified specialty and agricultural products company posted net income of $1.7 million, or 69 cents a share, for the fourth quarter, up 42% from the $1.2 million, or 49 cents a share, for the 1996 fourth quarter. Sales advanced 28% to $24.6 million from $19.2 million. For the year, net income totaled $2 million, or 81 cents a share, 25% higher than the $1.6 million, or 65 cents a share, recorded for 1996. Sales gained 39% to $67.7 million from $48.6 million.
