Temple IJC Will Celebrate Purim

Temple IJC Reform Congregation will celebrate Purim with festivities at 6 p.m. Friday. There will be a reading of the Book of Esther in which the congregation will try to drown out the name of Haman, the evil prime minister, with noisemakers. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes. The Rev. Leslie Heyboer will speak on “Religion According to Zumbach the Tailor” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Orange Coast Unitarian Universalist Church. The sermon is based on the story of an old village tailor who figured that if churches were managed the way the tailor made suits, there would be good results. Cal State Fullerton will host a lecture on “Dialogue and Cooperation Among the World’s Religions in the 21st Century” at 9 a.m. Monday in Room 32 of the Education Classroom Building. Barbara Fields Bernstein, assistant director of the Dearborn Institute, will be the featured speaker. Bernstein is working with the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence and the Rev. Temple Beth Emet will begin the Fast of Esther at 7 a.m. Wednesday. It will have a Megillah reading at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and a Purim service will take place at 7 a.m. Thursday. The Jewish Community Center of Orange County is offering Judaica Mini Courses this month.
