Zonta Awards Scholarships to 3 Women

The Conejo Valley chapter of Zonta International, a women’s service organization, recently awarded three Ventura County women with a Maxine Crossley Reentry Scholarship. The recipients are Gayane Pogosyan, C. Lyn Olson and Kathryn Moore. Each received $750 to continue their studies at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. The Zonta chapter annually seeks out women returning to postgraduate studies after an absence stemming from family obligations or finances.

Club Presents Sportsmanship Awards

* The Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley announced the winners of the 1997 Sir Thomas J. Lipton Sportsmanship Awards. A.J. Soltero and Tracie Karasik, both of Simi Valley, were awarded a trophy and certificate as part of the honor. The award is given each year to recognize one boy and one girl for their “outstanding exhibition of integrity, perseverance, sportsmanship and depth of character on and off the field of play.”

Toastmasters Name Contest Winners

* The Humor and Drama Toastmaster Club in Oxnard announced the winners of its speech competitions. They are Cheryl Brant in the Tall Tale Contest and Dick Ellis in the International Speech Contest. Both contestants will compete against other club winners at the area competition Saturday at the Port Hueneme naval base.
