The San Fernando Valley Counseling Center, 8350 Reseda Blvd. in Northridge, is seeking volunteers of varying ages and ethnic backgrounds to serve as counselors at the nonprofit mental health agency. Volunteers will be trained in counseling techniques by mental health professionals.

A meeting of the counseling training program will take place at 1 p.m. March 21 at First Lutheran Church of Northridge, 18355 Roscoe Blvd.

The San Fernando Valley Literacy Council needs volunteers to teach courses in English as a second language and literacy classes to adults.

Tutor training will be offered March 21 and 28. Classes run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sepulveda United Methodist Church, 15435 Rayen St. in North Hills.

Special Equestrian Riding Therapy needs volunteers to assist in therapeutic horseback riding for children and adults with disabilities, at its Agoura Hills ranch Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. Experience with horses is not necessary and volunteers must be 13 or older. Training, including CPR and first-aid instruction, will be provided.

Volunteer Center Assistance League of Southern California, 8134 Van Nuys Blvd., Suite 200, in Panorama City, is seeking people to help set up, maintain and dismantle exhibits during a health fair.

The center is also looking for volunteers to lead hikes and to lecture on the ecology, history, management and activities of the Santa Monica Mountains.

The Valley Trauma Center, which provides sexual assault crisis services for the Valley, is seeking volunteers to staff its 24-hour crisis hotline. The center provides a 60-hour training program for all volunteers.
