Civil War Play to Be Staged 3 Weekends

A three-weekend run of Shelby Foote’s dramatic Civil War play “Shiloh” begins tonight at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.

The battle at Shiloh occurred in 1862 near Pittsburgh Landing, Tenn., and Shelby’s play captures the “inner movements of the combatants’ hearts and minds,” said Lynda Paige Fulford, spokeswoman for Cal Lutheran University, which is sponsoring the play along with the Santa Susana Repertory Company.

Performances will be held in the plaza’s Forum Theater Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. through March 29.

General tickets are $25, $22 for students and senior citizens, and $21 for individuals in groups of 12 or more.

Reenactments of the battle at Shiloh will be held this weekend only on the Civic Arts Plaza grounds. The battle will be staged at noon and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $6 for adults and $2 for children.
