Abigail Abbott Reorganizes, Names 3 Presidents

* Abigail Abbott, a provider of temporary and permanent office help, has reorganized into three companies under a new parent company, Abbott Resources Group Inc. in Irvine. Karen Powers is president of Abigail Abbott Staffing Services; Shelle Thompson is president of Abbott Specialty Staffing Inc.; and Sandra Golden has been named president of Abbott HR Inc. Other new appointments are: Allayne Yackey, executive vice president of corporate relations; Donna Averill, chief financial officer; Laurie Smiley, executive vice president of human resources; Ken Kuck, director of marketing; and H. Wilson Beach, chairman and chief executive.

* James D. Burgin has been appointed vice president of marketing for I/OMagic Corp., an Irvine developer of personal computer products. Burgin had been director of national account sales for Truevision Corp. in Santa Clara. He was also general manager at Wave Multimedia Corp. and worked for Western Digital Corp.

* Kirby Mays is the new vice president of research and development for American Microwave Technology in Anaheim, a manufacturer of radio frequency power amplifiers. He was previously manger of research and development for HP/Avantek. In addition, James P. Burra and Richard D. Rocke have been elected to the board of directors. Burra is president of W.D. Adam Co., a manufacturer of polyethylene containers. Rocke is acting dean of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at Cal State Fullerton.

* Victoria Coopman has been named vice president, controller for Resident Group Services Inc., a division of Irvine-based Western National Group. She joined the company in 1996 as controller and MIS manager. In her new position, Coopman oversees overall operations for the corporate housing division and is responsible for all financial aspects of Resident Group Services.

* Dean J. Zipser has been named managing partner of the Irvine office of Morrison & Foerster LLP. He succeeds Ronald J. DeFelice, who had been managing partner since 1988. DeFelice will continue his real estate practice with the firm in an of-counsel status. Zipser joined the Orange County office in 1988 and has headed the litigation group since 1994.

* Martha Snook has joined Martin Luther Hospital Anaheim and La Palma Intercommunity Hospital as vice president, marketing and business development. Both hospitals are owned by Unihealth in Burbank. Snook has previously worked at Western Medical Center, Anaheim.

* Jim Stein has been elected to the board of directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He is president and chief executive of Fluor Daniel Inc. in Irvine.

* Lisa Weaver has been named vice president of managed care and business development for Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo. Before joining the hospital in 1994 as director of managed care, Weaver was a managed care consultant for Spectrum Perspectives Inc. in Fullerton.

* Michael C. McGovern has joined Hunsaker & Associates Irvine Inc. as land development manager. He has 20 years of experience in directing land development projects, engineering, construction and management.

* Todd Rovazzini has joined Dense-Pac Microsystems Inc. in Garden Grove as vice president of marketing and business development. He was previously with Goldenram Memory.

* Richard P. Pauletich has been appointed California state manager for First American Title Insurance Co. in Santa Ana. He is currently regional vice president of the company, as well as chairman and chief executive of a subsidiary, First American Title Guaranty Co.

* Debra B. Newbrough has been named vice president, real estate credit officer for Tokai Bank of California’s Orange County regional office in Irvine. She will originate new construction and permanent financing for industrial, retail and commercial properties and manage the regional real estate loan portfolio.

* Jim Remick has joined the Newport Beach office of J&H; Marsh & McLennan as a senior benefits consultant. He had been vice president of Robert E. French Insurance Services Inc. in Santa Ana. Before that, Remick held sales executive positions with BPS Healthcare, Cigna Healthcare and the Travelers.

* Marla Brower Hemmel has been elected to a two-year term on the the board of directors of the California Assn. of Community Managers. She is president of BHE Management Corp. in Laguna Niguel.

* Thomas B. Smiley has been named vice president, planning and business development for BI Technologies Corp. in Fullerton. He had been appointed director last July. In addition, David Smolik was appointed director, product marketing. He was formerly business manager, magnetic components.

* Wendy Harder has been appointed director of community relations for the new campus of Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo. She was previously vice president of marketing and corporate affairs at the Mission Viejo Co. and before that was an anchor-producer and reporter with KOCE-TV. The university is scheduled to open in September 2001.

* James M. Lancaster has joined Zeiser Kling Consultants in Costa Mesa as project engineering geologist. He has more than 11 years of experience in the geologic and geotechnical fields.

* Jan Young has been made a partner in Spear, Young & Associates, a fund-raising counsel in Newport Beach. Her responsibilities will include corporate development and support, volunteer and membership development, special events, community outreach and public relations.

* Tony Domenico has joined Perigon Medical Distribution Corp. in Laguna Hills in the new position of senior vice president of sales and operations. He was formerly a vice president and general manager for Apria Healthcare. Domenico has also been regional and corporate assistant controller for Homedco.
