A youth program that provides an after-school haven for more than 150 South-Central Los Angeles children will team up with a blues band and a soul food restaurant Thursday to increase the program’s inventory of educational supplies.

Dreams, a youth-empowerment program based in the historic Dunbar Hotel on Central Avenue, is seeking “helping hands” to donate items ranging from crayons and notebooks to television sets and computers during the “Blues on Broadway” series held at Jacobs’ Cafe.

“We kind of adopted Dreams, and this is going to be part of an ongoing thing,” said Carol Jacobs, owner of the soul food restaurant that opened in 1947. A large container will be placed in the front of the restaurant for donations. “We are just trying to help them out because they are in dire need of supplies.”

The campaign seeking supplies and the blues show are scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. at the restaurant, 4705 S. Broadway.
