Ski Event to Benefit Victims of Crimes

Share

The family of Steven Woods, killed by gang members in a 1993 attack at Calafia Beach County Park when a paint-roller rod pierced his head, are organizing a ski- and board-a-thon Saturday at Mammoth Mountain to honor the teenager.

His sister Shellie Woods, 29, has organized the event every year since her brother’s death to raise money for survivors of crimes. Steven, 17 at the time he died, was a skier and snowboarder.

About 100 people took part in last year’s event.

Admission is $25 for adults; $15 for students. Participants who complete the most runs between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. will be given awards at a party from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Aspen Grill. Donations: P.O. Box 826 Mammoth Lakes, 93546.
