Whiteman Airport

Re “Safety Record Vexes Airfield on City Fringe,” March 1.

The airport doesn’t benefit the people living in the area. As a resident, all I get out of it is noise, especially on a windy day when engines are allowed to be tested. None of the area residents own airplanes, so they have to give up their peace and comfort for those who can afford them.

We supposedly are concerned about having activities for the young, especially those denied them by their circumstances. When I was young we used to go hiking there. Now even that has been taken away. Are we always going to take away from the least prosperous to benefit the more prosperous and then lament that the poor are causing problems? . . . Wouldn’t it be wiser to consider people living in the area and their needs when developing land?
