Cubensis Comes Home

It may be odd to quote the Beatles when talking about a Grateful Dead tribute band, but Cubensis is getting back to where it once belonged.

Starting today, the jamming Deadhead ensemble will return its every Tuesday soiree to the former Moose McGillycuddy’s (a club now known as La Mirage), where it had played weekly for four years before being banished in December after a management change. Band leader Craig Marshall said the new owners decided Deadmania fit their concept after all, and Cubensis was more than willing to return to the venue just over the Orange County line at 190 Marina Drive, Long Beach.

Cubensis has been playing Tuesdays at the Foothill in Signal Hill, but average attendance dwindled to 100 a night, Marshall said, from 300 before the switch.

“We basically lost all our Orange County crowd when we moved down there, and we want ‘em back,” Marshall said.

Cubensis’ shows start at 8 p.m.; $5 cover. (562) 596-8108.
