Teacher's Curtain Call: A 'Broadway' Revival

Before she retires from Crown Valley Elementary School, fourth-grade teacher Carole Allen wants to hold a special reunion show of "The Best of the Best of Broadway."

For 30 years, Allen, 57, has found spare time during lunch breaks, after school and on Saturdays to direct Broadway musicals with aspiring performers in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Her former students include two teachers at the school.

Now she wants to show off her final production to former students.

"I wrote this show," Allen said. "It's a combination of show-stopping songs from 30 years rolled into one show with connecting dialogue. This show isn't about me; it's about us celebrating the music we have enjoyed together."

The performance is free, but Allen encourages audience members to bring canned food for the needy. The show will begin at 2 p.m. June 7 at the school, 29292 Crown Valley Parkway.
