Broadcom Enters Partnership

Broadcom Corp. said Wednesday it entered into a partnership with General Instrument Corp. to develop integrated silicon systems for high-end multimedia machines. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

As part of the deal, General Instrument agreed to purchase a percentage of integrated circuits for its digital cable set-top products from Broadcom in each of the next four years.

Irvine-based Broadcom also will help integrate features such as cable modem functions into General Instrument’s digital cable terminals, which are expected to be unveiled early next year.
