Timm Browne, captain and acting chief of the Rialto Police Department, has been named the city’s new police chief.

Browne, 48, was selected Tuesday to replace Chief Gary Johansen, who is retiring April 30 after nearly 10 years with the department.

The 25-year law enforcement veteran who spent 24 years with the Orange Police Department was selected from 46 candidates. He will join the 23-officer force April 20 and will train with Johansen until he retires.
