A tentative contract agreement was reached Wednesday between Kaiser Permanente and thousands of registered nurses at hospitals and clinics throughout Northern California.

The agreement calls for a 12% raise over the next four years, according to Rose Ann DeMoro, executive director of the California Nurses Assn.

Kaiser Permanente spokesman Tom Debley said management was “very pleased with the agreement.”

“It’s a win-win for the nurses and Kaiser Permanente,” he said.

The agreement was reached about 4 a.m. Wednesday after a long negotiating session called to end the contentious labor dispute that led to six limited strikes.

The nurses association will recommend that its 7,500 registered nurses from Fresno to the Oregon border approve the pact, DeMoro said. The nurses, who have been working without a contract since January 1997, will vote over the next three weeks.

In addition to the raises, the agreement would assign 18 registered nurses as “quality liaisons” in the Kaiser system.
