Beach Cities’ Groups Get $4.7 Million for Services
The Beach Cities Health District, which provides funding for health care services in Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, says it has allocated $4.7 million for services in the three cities.
The three school districts received $1.2 million to pay for their counselors and nurses along with nutrition programs. The cities received $691,000 to operate their emergency services and to conduct programs such as DARE.
About $504,000 was allotted for elderly services, such as Meals on Wheels and dementia care. Nearly $473,000 was allocated to adult health care programs, including prenatal screenings and sobriety support.
In addition, $1.7 million was distributed to programs and services operated by the district including the Center for Health and Fitness, the Domestic Violence Fund, an immunization project, educational programs and wellness workshops.
The district, receives funds from taxpayers who contribute annually--about $40 per household--and the rent it collects from leasing the South Bay Medical Center. The monies are distributed to the community organizations annually.
