Tree Planting Planned for Boulevard Section

As part of an effort to beautify Ventura Boulevard, the roadway will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday between Woodman Avenue and Ventura Canyon Avenue for a community tree planting.

Residents are invited to lend a hand in planting the trees along the boulevard sidewalks.

“This is the start of a greening process of Ventura Boulevard,” said Richard Close, president of the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn., one of the event sponsors. “It’s been a long time coming.”

The planting, being done in conjunction with Councilman Mike Feuer’s office and several local businesses and organizations, is being paid for primarily through funds raised at the homeowners’ association holiday party in December and a grant obtained by the city.

Along with the digging and planting, food will be sold by local restaurants, music and games.

It is the first time a section of the boulevard has been closed to allow a community planting and Close said it will not be the last. The association already has plans to hold a fund-raiser in July to pay for a community tree planting between Beverly Glen Boulevard and Kester Avenue, Close said.
