Water Main Maintenance Is Scheduled

Water mains throughout the city will be cleaned at night this month as part of an annual maintenance plan that creates better water circulation and prevents specific types of bacteria from growing, officials said Thursday.

The cleaning is done by opening fire hydrants and flushing the lines, according to city officials.

Residents in areas where flushing is occurring may notice more air in their water and unharmful particles that look like rust, city officials said. Those effects usually subside in a couple of days.
