New Dawn for Imagining Yellow Suns?

While drumming in Turkish Delight, Rob Fadtke is also close to releasing an album with an old comrade, singer-guitarist Steve Cross. The two debuted together 10 years ago in Imagining Yellow Suns, an ambitious and innovative O.C. band that emphasized sweet trio harmonies while seeking to bridge the gap between raucous alternative rock and stately progressive music.

IYS imploded after a single promising album for Doctor Dream Records, but Cross and Fadtke stuck together in the bands Cake and Lungpigs.

Now they play in Shave, which is finishing a CD at Headchange, a studio Cross runs in Long Beach. Turkish Delight has been rehearsing at Cross’ place, a bed of musical activity nicknamed the Compound. Fadtke said the two strayed members of IYS, Tim Bugge and Ed Bernard, have been coming around as well.

The four have jammed a bit and are considering making another record, nine years after flaming out amid personal animosities and ruffled egos.

“We should have stayed together, but there were too many ideas” that led to clashes, Fadtke said. “It would be interesting to see if we could pull off another one.”
