Pasadena-based Paula Financial said its first-quarter earnings increased by 11.7% to $1 million, or 15 cents per share, compared with earnings of $916,000, or 23 cents, a year earlier. Earnings per share decreased by 34.8% because of an increase in the weighted average shares outstanding of 2.8 million.
