5 Women, Girls Held in Cabbie’s Assault
A taxi driver was assaulted and robbed by three women and two girls when he stopped to pick up a passenger early Sunday, police said.
The driver had been dispatched to Brookhurst Street and Garfield Avenue about 2 a.m., Police Lt. Dan Johnson said. A witness called police and told them that the five assailants had fled in a 1997 Ford Escort.
Officers found the suspects at a nearby convenience store and arrested them, Johnson said.
Police recovered $160 taken from the cab driver, who was not seriously injured, Johnson said.
