A Pasadena commuter on the way to work Monday morning came upon the body of a teenager who had been shot to death, apparently the night before.

Corey Dumas, 17, of Pasadena was declared dead at the scene by officers who responded to the 100 block of South Oak Street after a resident called police about 6 a.m.

Police believe Dumas was shot the night before because of reports from residents of gunfire.

“Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. we received numerous calls of shots fired near South Oak and Del Mar Avenue . . . but officers didn’t find anything and left the scene,” said Janet Pope-Hinton, department spokeswoman.

Dumas was found on the parkway with an undisclosed number of wounds, she said.

The teenager’s only previous contact with the department had come as a crime victim on two prior occasions, Pope-Hinton said.
