Accountant Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

Share

A certified public accountant from Manhattan Beach pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to evading taxes on more than $500,000 in income he derived largely from preparing the tax returns of others.

In a plea agreement with the government, Mario T. Scaduto, 40, admitted that he converted checks from his clients into cashiers checks, which he then used for his own benefit in 1991 and 1992.

Scheduled to be sentenced July 13 on two felony counts, Scaduto faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
