An Ojai man with diabetes escaped injury Monday after losing control of his car during a fainting spell, authorities said.

Richard Torres, 56, felt faint from low blood sugar and lost control of his car about 11:55 a.m. while traveling northbound on the Ventura Freeway just south of Main Street, the California Highway Patrol reported. His car hurtled over a guard rail and skidded 25 feet down an embankment, coming to a stop near a recreational-vehicle park.

“He came to, and was speaking to an officer,” said CHP Officer Dave Cockrill. Torres was uninjured. No other cars were involved and traffic was not affected, Cockrill said.
