Star Lineup on CD for Cystic Fibrosis

It started with a Westlake housewife who wanted to do something about cystic fibrosis.

That something turned out to be a CD single featuring such singers as Garth Brooks, Olivia Newton-John and Michael McDonald and premiering with a music video today.

“When people say ‘Somebody ought to do something,’ I feel that I am ‘somebody,’ ” Sheri Mount said.

Mount’s husband, David, heads the Warner Brothers Music division of Time-Warner and helped line up the musical talent. The artists and producers donated their time, and all proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The couple have been active in fund-raising for the disease, the No. 1 genetic killer of children and young adults.

Mount said the idea for the single came to her during a five-hour flight to Nashville. Country songwriter Steven McClintock, who sat beside Mount on the flight, deserves much of the credit for the yearlong project, she said.

“A lot of times, I’m just a housewife,” Mount said, adding that this project worked because “I don’t take no for an answer.”

Country music’s Faith Hill, Neal McCoy, Bryan White and Victoria Shaw are among the singers performing the song “One Heart at a Time,” written and produced by Shaw.

About 150,000 copies have been shipped to music stores across the country.

The one-song CD costs $3.49 and will be available May 12.
