William ‘Art’ Lockwood; 54-Year County Resident

William Arthur “Art” Lockwood, a Ventura County resident for 54 years, died Sunday. He was 90.

Lockwood was born March 21, 1908, in Kansas City, Mo. He lived in Ventura from 1944 to 1995, when he moved to Oxnard to be closer to one of his daughters.

Lockwood was in the oil tool supply business. He last owned and was retired from L&R; Sales of Ventura, his family said.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Allene Lockwood, a brother, Clarence Lockwood, and a sister, Lucille Lockwood.

Lockwood’s family described him as a humble man with Christian values. He was also well-read and quick-witted, family members said.

He was a member of the Ventura First Baptist Church, the Ventura Masonic Lodge 633, the Loyal Order of Moose, Ventura Lodge 1394, and the Channel Islands Moose Legion 175. Lockwood was also affiliated with the Delta Chi fraternity and the Senior Coalition.

Lockwood is survived by two daughters, Nancy O’Connor of Oxnard and Pat Smith of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Don Lockwood of Fountain Valley; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a niece; and a cousin.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Ventura First Baptist Church. The officiant will be Dr. Robert W. Pratt. Private interment arrangements were made by Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Ventura First Baptist Church’s Scholarship Fund.
