Trustees to Hear Sports Proposal

Super Sports Golf & Recreation Center is proposing a series of sports programs at Orange Unified schools.

General Manager Kent Hawkins will present details of the proposal to Orange Unified School District trustees at a meeting Monday. The district switched its regular meeting time next week to accommodate a trustee who needs to go out of town.

The program would offer a variety of sports to any district child in fourth through eighth grades, with games played on fields at the year-round elementary schools, Hawkins said in his written proposal.

The proposal suggests that the center, which leases its Canal Street property from the district, manage the program, maintain the playing fields and provide the equipment. In exchange, the district would cover a $9,000 monthly cost.

As a pilot project, the center is proposing a summer program of soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, tennis and golf.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at district headquarters, 1401 N. Handy St. Information: (714) 997-6221.
