* STORAGE DISPUTE: The commission will consider a proposal to build a 74,593-square-foot self-storage yard on three acres of a former landfill known as “Sinkin’ Lincoln.”

The project, on West Lincoln Avenue at Beach Boulevard, has sparked opposition from the West Anaheim Neighborhood Development Council, which contends the 20-acre site should be better utilized.

The city’s planning staff is recommending denial since the proposed project would reduce the likelihood that the entire lot, which has contamination problems, would be developed.

The 1972 act allows cities to lower the property tax bills in an effort to encourage historic preservation. The savings can be used to restore the building or to maintain it. Only properties on historic registries are eligible. But with the mile-square Old Towne now on the National Register of Historic Places, hundreds of homes and businesses could qualify.
