* Mary Hahn Froerer; Member of Pioneer Family
Mary Teresa Hahn Froerer, a longtime Ojai resident and a member of one of Ventura County’s pioneering families, died Monday. She was 91.
Froerer was born Jan. 8, 1907, in northern Italy. In 1911, she moved with her parents to Ventura, where her maternal grandmother’s family, the Ferros, had established interests in ranching and agriculture.
Froerer graduated from Ventura High School in 1925 and went to work as a secretary for the Ventura Fire Department, according to Froerer’s daughter, Liane Froerer of Ojai.
In 1932, Froerer married Arthur Froerer. The couple moved with their children to Alameda in 1945. Froerer worked as a secretary for the Alameda County Juvenile Probation Department for more than 20 years.
In 1976, Froerer and her husband returned to Ventura County and settled in Ojai. Froerer’s husband died in 1982.
Mary Froerer enjoyed playing piano and guitar. She also played cards and enjoyed drives to Ventura Harbor for ice cream, her daughter said.
“She was much younger than her years and she was very pretty,” Liane Froerer said. “People used to compliment her on how beautiful her skin and hair were.”
In addition to Liane Froerer, Froerer is survived by a son, Arthur Froerer of Hawaii; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is planned from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Chapel in Ventura. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. at the Ferro mausoleum at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
Memorial contributions can be made to the National Parkinson’s Disease Foundation Inc. in Miami.
