High School May Test Out Math Tutoring Program
In an effort to boost students’ math scores, the Saddleback Valley Unified School District is proposing to launch a pilot math lab program at one of its six high schools next year.
The program, which could later be expanded to all district high schools, allows students needing help with math to receive one-on-one math instruction.
On Tuesday, trustees decided it would be best to test the new math lab at one school before adopting the program at all schools. Although they are proposing to approve the project for one semester, a school site has not yet been selected.
Should trustees approve the math lab, the district plans to hire two math coaches and the lab would be open 15 hours a week. Trustees will consider adopting the pilot program at the district’s next meeting, at 7 p.m. June 9 in the Education Center boardroom, 25631 Diseno Drive.
