Jack Olivera; Longshoreman, Ventura Native

Native Ventura resident and career longshoreman Jack Olivera died Wednesday. He was 64.
Olivera was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Ventura and was a lifelong county resident and sixth-generation Californian.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War, his family said.
Olivera was a longshoreman for 35 years and was a member of the International Longshoremen’s & Warehousemen’s Union, Local No. 46.
Olivera was a member of the San Buenaventura Mission. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and being with his family. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, his family said.
Olivera is survived by his wife of 46 years, Emma Marques Olivera of Ventura; a son, Michael Olivera of Bishop; five daughters, Anna Soto, Julie Alcasas, Jacqueline Maudlin, Laura Olivera and Hope Olivera, all of Ventura; four brothers, Robert Olivera and David Olivera, both of Ventura, and Arthur Olivera and Louie Olivera, both of Santa Barbara; two sisters, Suzanne Duran of Ventura and Bernice Villarreal of Thousand Oaks; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura, and a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the San Buenaventura Mission.
A Mass will be said at 9 a.m. Saturday at the mission and burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura.
