Seabee Center Presents Memorial Award

* Patricia Higgins was honored recently with the seventh annual Joyce W. Stewart Memorial Award by the Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme.

The honor recognizes excellence in providing equal employment opportunity leadership to CBC’s female and minority employees. Higgins works at the Seabee Logistic Center Information Technology Support Office and was instrumental in maintaining the center’s equal employment opportunity goals and programs.

Camarillo Eagle Scout to Receive Honor

* Jonathan Light of Camarillo will be honored Tuesday with the 1998 Fritz Huntsinger Sr. Award, an honor bestowed upon “an Eagle Scout who has demonstrated a commitment of excellence in community service.”

During award ceremonies at the Oxnard Hilton, 129 Ventura County boys will also be recognized for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. The 1998 Eagle Scout Class will be dedicated in Light’s honor. Light, an attorney, has served three terms as president of the Ventura County Council, Boy Scouts of America.

CLU Senior Is Awarded Poetry Prize

* K.C. Kreycik, a senior at Cal Lutheran University, was awarded the Mark Van Doren Poetry Prize at the university’s Honor’s Day convocation.

Kreycik, a Simi Valley resident, was selected by faculty members of the English department. Recipients receive a cash prize and a plaque, plus have their names engraved on a larger plaque displayed in the department.
