Rossier School to Be Discussed Tonight

Share

Residents opposing the planned move of Rossier School to their west Garden Grove neighborhood will have a chance to speak to the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education when it meets tonight in the Don Wash Auditorium.

Neighbors have cited concerns about traffic and disruptions from students in organizing against the relocation. The special-education campus plans to move into the neighborhood by June 1.

Rossier’s students, ranging in age from 5 to 19, have emotional, social and developmental problems. The 189 students are sent from Orange and Los Angeles counties to study in classrooms designed specifically for their needs, administrators said.

The school holds a lease on the district-owned Garden Park campus at Springdale Street and Stanford Avenue. The district’s growing enrollment and class-size reduction program has forced it to reopen Simmons School in central Garden Grove, where Rossier has operated for the past 18 years.

The board will hear presentations on the district’s special-education program as well as a discussion of its legal obligations for such students. No board action is planned.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium on the Garden Grove High School campus at Euclid Street and Stanford Avenue.
