The wooden handles of these kitchen tools are first covered with 20 layers of colored paints, then a layer of gold or silver leaf. Adina Watkins, a former jewelry maker based in Toronto, then carves the handles in various patterns to reveal the paint layers. Finally they are covered with several layers of a urethane coating, so that the tools are not only beautiful to look at but dishwasher safe. “I like to create cooking and serving utensils that are both practical and affordable,” she says.
