Safety Rules OKd for Planned Skate Park

Safety rules have been approved for the city’s planned skateboard park at Lions Park.

Skateboarders must wear helmets and elbow and knee pads. Signs also will be posted warning skaters that the area is unsupervised.

Skaters who do not comply with the safety requirements will be cited.

On April 20, the City Council approved the park in concept after state law reduced the liability to cities. Local skateboarders and manufacturers will serve as consultants on the park’s design.

If the complex at Lions Park is a success, a second park may be built elsewhere in the city.
