Hearing to Focus on Preparations for Coastal Protection Program
An officer of the Los Angeles City Planning Department will hear public testimony today about the preparation of a state-mandated coastal program for Venice.
The Venice program will apply to the area west of Lincoln Boulevard between Marina del Rey and Santa Monica, said Haideh Aghassi, project manager with the department.
The program will include policies regarding development, natural resources, beach access, parking and zoning restrictions. The city has enforced regional guidelines recommended by the California Coastal Act since its enactment in 1976, and has tried sporadically since then to complete a Local Coastal Plan for Venice, as required by the legislation.
Aghassi said she hopes the coastal plan will be adopted by June 1999.
A hearing officer will take testimony from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mark Twain Junior High School, 2224 Walgrove Ave.
