Public Works Chief Les Evans Hired as New City Manager

The City Council has selected Public Works Director Les Evans to take the city’s top job July 1 when City Manager Paul Bussey retires.

Evans, 53, began working for the city two years ago and has a 28-year career in city government. Before his arrival in Rancho Palos Verdes, Evans operated a consulting service and before that he spent about 15 years combined serving as a public works director for the cities of Rialto, Carlsbad and Huntington Beach.

Evans was selected from 60 applicants and was one of five finalists for the position. He said he looks forward to the job and plans to work with the City Council to carry out its vision for Rancho Palos Verdes.

“I think the City Council is very interested in continuing along the path that Paul Bussey help set, which includes trying to become economically stable and ensuring the best mix of development and open space in the city,” Evans said. “That’s what I’ll stick with.”
