Saturday: Tour of the “Secret Gardens” of Venice, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., beginning at the Las Doradas Children’s Center, 804 Broadway Ave., Venice, (310) 390-6641. Vans will continuously shuttle visitors to this docents-led tour of 25 homes. $50.

Saturday and May 31: Sale of chrysanthemums in 2-inch pots, all priced at $1, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Can~ada Flintridge, (818) 952-4401. Adults, $5; seniors and students, $3; children, $1.

Saturday: Lecture on the herbal uses of roses, with a rose garden walk, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at Quail Botanical Gardens, 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas. $25, with preregistration required, call (760) 436-3036.

Saturday: Talk on lavenders by enthusiast Jan Smitten, 10-11:30 a.m., with a sale of lavenders and lavender products afterward, at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Drive, La Can~ada Flintridge, (818) 952-4401. Adults, $5; seniors and students, $3; children, $1.

Saturday and May 31: Orchid festival, with hundreds of orchids on view, sales and workshops, 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Huntington Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino, (626) 405-2141. Saturday programs include culture and care (11 a.m.), growing cymbidiums (1 p.m.) and pests (3 p.m.). Sunday has slide shows on orchid species (11 a.m.), the Margaret Mee Amazon drawing exhibit (1 p.m.) and “Outstanding Orchids” (3 p.m.). Adults, $8.50; seniors, $7; students $5; children, free.
