Sinking Boat Saved by Coast Guard Officer
VENTURA —
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people whose boat began sinking in calm waters eight miles offshore in the direction of Anacapa Island.
A rescue boat reached the 29-foot cabin cruiser about 20 minutes after the group’s 2:45 p.m. call for help. An officer went on board and repaired a leaking bilge pump, said Ken Coddington, a Coast Guard spokesman.
David E. Wilkie of La Crescenta, his wife, Melanie, and two adult relatives were uninjured and were able to drive the boat back to shore.
