Relief pitcher Mike James said he felt no pain during his work out Monday. James is on the disabled list with a partially torn flexor muscle in his right forearm.

James played long toss for a few minutes, then threw off the mound in the bullpen for about 10 minutes. He will throw again on Wednesday.

“We want him to have two or three sidelines,” Manager Terry Collins said. “Then we’ll decide whether to send him out on a rehab assignment or just activate him.”

Third baseman Dave Hollins’ foul ball cleared the roof at Edison Field, just to the right of home plate Sunday--a difficult accomplishment.

“I was just getting rid of a bad baseball,” Hollins said.

Hollins got a day off Monday, as Craig Shipley made only his third start in the last three weeks. Shipley had two singles and also made two solid defensive plays.

Chuck Finley threw 123 pitches Sunday, the third consecutive start he has gone over 120. Finley, who went 6 2/3 innings, was pitching so well that Collins wasn’t aware how high the count was until pitching coach Marcel Lachemann brought it to his attention.

“I didn’t realize he had thrown that many pitches,” Collins said. “He was just sailing a long.”
