Former Pasadena Mayor Rick Cole has been chosen by the Azusa City Council to become the city administrator and a formal announcement will come once contract terms are set, sources said Wednesday.
In a closed-door meeting Tuesday night, Cole, 44, was reportedly the unanimous choice of council members, who hope he will bring some of the vision that help draft the success of the Old Pasadena shopping district.
His selection followed presentations by Cole and the other finalist for the position, Alhambra Deputy City Manager Vangie Schock.
City Councilman Dick Stanford said the council had selected a new administrator but won’t make an announcement until a contract is signed and review of a background check has been completed.
Cole, of Pasadena, is the Southern California director of the Local Government Commission, a nonprofit group that helps cities draft economic and transportation policies.
Cole served on the Pasadena City Council for 12 years, beginning in 1983. During his tenure, which included two years as mayor, he was outspoken on urban renewal and the lack of diversity in the Tournament of Roses organization.
