Saddleback Expects Higher Enrollment

Share

Saddleback College officials are expecting more students to enroll this fall, following a 4% enrollment increase this spring semester over last year.

“Students with college degrees have come back. . . . There are a lot of people who are trying to upgrade current job skills or train for another career,” college spokeswoman Susan Lemkin said.

The growing student population, which added 829 students over last year’s enrollment, can be attributed in part to lower fees, at $11 per unit--down from $12 last year, Lemkin said. Fees for students with degrees had risen as high as $50 per unit in 1995.

“Last spring we had 2,900 students [out of 22,700 students] with bachelor’s degrees or higher,” Lemkin said. “Three years ago we had 1,862 students who paid $50 a unit.”

The fall semester begins Aug. 24.
