High-Speed Boats to Toronto, Niagara

Taking a day trip from Niagara Falls to Toronto gets easier this week, when two Toronto-based companies launch high-speed passenger craft that go from the Niagara region to the Canadian city in an hour.

Currently, the trip across Lake Ontario takes 90 minutes or more. Travel by road can take two hours or more.

On Monday, Waterways Transportation Services Corp. starts running a 300-passenger catamaran six times a day between Jordan Harbor, near St. Catharines, Canada and Toronto. Passengers in Niagara Falls, Casino Niagara and Niagara town connect with the boat via shuttles. Adult round-trip fares are about $27. Information: toll-free (888) 581-2628.

On Friday, Shaker Cruise Lines begins a 70-passenger hydrofoil service between Toronto and Niagara town, St. Catharines’ Port Dalhousie and Lewiston, N.Y. Adult round-trip fares from Niagara are about $29. Information: (416) 364-3938.
