Self-Exams Could Save a Life: Yours

Share

Nobody wants to think about cancer, but a few precautions could be well worth the effort. Just get a cancer screening early--before you actually suspect there may be a problem--and then keep getting them regularly. And self-exams don’t hurt either. They’re usually pretty simple to do and can save your life. If you don’t know how to perform self-exams, ask your doctor.

Here are some ways to detect cancer in its earliest stages:

* Breast: self- and professional exams and mammograms.

* Skin: self- and professional exams and biopsies.

* Cervical: pelvic exams, Pap tests.

* Colorectal: digital rectal and colorectal exams, screening for blood in stool.

* Prostate: digital rectal exams, blood tests.

* Testicular: self- and professional exams.
