Lawyers Contest Pinochet Ruling

Share
From Times Wire Reports

The House of Lords, Britain’s highest court, was told by lawyers for British and Spanish prosecutors that Augusto Pinochet had no right to immunity given the “savage and barbarous crimes”--including the slayings of children and torture--that Chile’s former dictator was responsible for. The lawyers were seeking to overturn a ruling that Pinochet’s Oct. 16 arrest on a Spanish warrant was illegal. The appeal may be heard through next week.
