Remains believed to be those of nine U.S. servicemen will be sent back from North Korea on Friday, the Pentagon announced Thursday.

The transfer represents the largest number of remains to be recovered from any single search operation, the statement said.

The remains were recovered by a joint U.S.-North Korean team operating along the Chong-Chon River, about 100 miles north of Pyongyang, during the last three weeks.
