Soldiers to Practice Their Crisis Skills
More than 1,500 soldiers will descend on Port Hueneme’s Naval Construction Battalion Center this week to brush up on emergency readiness skills.
Known as the sea emergency deployment readiness exercise, the eight-day practice session will begin Nov. 14. It is intended to test the ability of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division to assemble and move military equipment during a crisis. Soldiers will begin arriving at the base Monday.
The exercise will entail setting up living quarters and unloading more than 600 helicopters and 50 military vans. The soldiers will assemble the helicopters, fly them to the Naval Air Station at Point Mugu, and then on to the Ft. Irwin Army base near Barstow.
