Sherman Block

* On March 5 I was burned with third-degree burns over 35% of my body. I was in the intensive care unit at the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks for several weeks. The extensive surgeries required to save my life required a constant supply of blood. Donor blood. Unfortunately, I have a rare blood type that is not readily available in large supplies.

Sheriff Sherman Block heard about my accident and made a request to the staff of the Sheriff’s Department to donate the blood I would need to survive. The response was overwhelming. Block did this for me, someone he has never met. Someone who was not a sheriff’s deputy or police officer.

I never had an opportunity to thank the sheriff in person for his graciousness. Hopefully this letter will be seen by thousands of Southern Californians so that they too can see what a caring man he was to all.

Thank you, Sherman Block, for the gift of life. You will always be very special to the Prouty family.
