If you’re wondering if your old stove will make it through another holiday season, perhaps it’s time to check out the “scratch and dents” at someplace like H & M Appliances, where the prices on new or refurbished major appliances are some of the lowest in the San Fernando Valley.

Some new 30-inch Premiere [Tappan product] gas stoves with several extras--clocks, timers, bake and broil elements--that carry a retail price of $420 are $279 here, and the stickers on the refurbished stoves (with a 90-day warranty) start at $150.

A new 22-cubic-foot Amana side-by-side refrigerator retails for $1,100, sells at some discounters for $899, but H & M’s price is $699 and, if that’s too much for the budget, reconditioned refrigerators start at $149.

And where else could you find a reconditioned Maytag washer and gas dryer for $350 with a one-year warranty? Cooktops, dishwashers, microwaves . . . even vacuums . . . we found some great deals here.

Haim Tamsut started out as an repairman (wife Natalie coos that “he’s a genius”) and still maintains one of the lowest-priced repair services in town. Tamsut claims that his technicians can repair any make or model of household appliance, heating or air-conditioning, and the low service charge is $35.
